The FDNY Softball Teams had a stellar season in 2005. Both the Open and Master (over 40) Teams captured the title as National Champions at the IAFF - MDA Softball Tournament held in Maryland in early September.
This was the third tournament won by the Open Team in 2005. In addition to Maryland, the team, which is coached by Retired Firefighter Vinnie Ryan and FF Steve Mundinger of Ladder 162, won championships in Las Vegas and Detroit.
The Master Team, coached by Captain Joe Masterson of Ladder 135 captured their second consecutive National Title at the Maryland Tourney. They also joined the Open team as champions of the Las Vegas Games.
Congratulations and good luck to both teams in 2006.
Note: In his 28-year coaching career, Vinnie Ryan has compiled 421 wins.
