More minorities than ever are taking the FDNY exam, after a legal fight over the Fire Department's allegedly tainted process, officials said yesterday.

The department announced that 42,161 Bravest wannabes took the test this spring -- an all-time high -- and nearly 46 percent were minorities, also a record number and more than double the figure five years ago.

In addition, a record number of women, nearly 2,000, took the exam. Of those, 70 percent were minorities.
