Person Hit by Train on Upper West Side, Officials Say

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A woman died after jumping in front of a train at the West 72nd Street and Broadway subway station Thursday night, an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch.

Several witnesses told police they saw the woman jump from the edge of the platform and get hit by the train around 5:20 p.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said. Firefighters responded to the station around 5:45 p.m., and EMS pronounced the woman dead on the scene, officials told Patch.

The NYPD spokeswoman could not confirm the identity or age of the woman who was killed, but did say that criminality is not suspected in the death. The investigation into the woman's death is still ongoing, police told Patch.

The MTA confirmed that somebody was hit at the station and that 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 train service was affected by the ensuing emergency response.
