Two veteran firefighters captured a man who was trying to flee a car wreck in Jamaica, officials said yesterday.

The trouble began at 10:21 p.m. Saturday, when anti-crime cops were chasing two men driving an allegedly stolen vehicle on 183rd Street at Liberty Avenue.

The suspects slammed into another vehicle, triggering a five-car pile-up, police said.

Firefighters Billy Fitch, 35, and Robert Clappi, 38, were responding to the accident scene when they grabbed one of the suspects as he tried to run away, holding him until police arrived, sources said.

The charges against him were not immediately available.

His alleged accomplice managed to get away.
