1. Vote For Ret. FF Sal Anselona as the Lenox Tools Next Extra Mile Hero!
Retired FF Sal Anselona was chosen as a finalist in the 'Lenox Tools Next Extra Mile Hero' contest for charity. One of Sal's children wrote an essay explaining Sal's service to the community, especially his dedication and volunteerism during the World Trade Center Disaster. Sal worked for 24 years in R-2 and L-142. Help Sal win by logging on to the Lenox Hero Site at www.lenoxhero.com/Voting.aspx and casting your vote. The grand finalist can receive up to $500,000 for their favorite charity. Sal has chosen the Elsasser Fund and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Voting ends April 30, 2009.
2. NYC Marathon
Any member interested in running in the 2009 New York City Marathon must apply before April 30, 2009. Members can apply online at www.nyrrc.org. All members should call the Health and Fitness Unit as soon as they receive their e-mail confirmation from the New York Road Runners Club. The Health and Fitness Unit can be reached at 212-360-4451.
3. Brother In Need!
On Saturday, May 2nd, from 3-7pm at Mulcahy's located at 2323 Railroad Ave. Wantagh, NY. FF John McNamara (E-234) is fighting aggressive cancer and is in need. Donation: $50 at the door. There will also be live music, 50/50, silent auction, food and drinks.
4. 3rd Annual Martin J. Egan Jr. 5K Memorial Run / Walk
On Sunday, May 3rd at 10am, at Midland Beach picnic area, Lincoln Ave. & Fr. Capadanno Blvd., Staten Island, NY. Pre-registration is $20, Race day registration is $25. There will also be a kids fun run (no fee, medals to all) and other activities for kids including food and beverages. All proceeds go to a scholarship fund in Marty's name. 5. Plaque Dedication
On Wednesday, May 6th, at 11am, a plaque dedication will be held honoring the memory of the following members of E-161 who made the supreme sacrifice as follows: Lt. Harold J. Curran (5/30/44) and FF Robert Mahl (9/9/41). The dedication will take place in the quarters of E-161, located at 278 McClean Avenue, Staten Island, NY. All off-duty members and their families are invited to attend as a mark of respect to the deceased. Members are requested to attend in dress uniform.
