Statement from Stephen J. Cassidy, President, Uniformed Firefighters Association on the Death of Firefighter Chuck Jones of Ladder 165, Who Toiled for Months at World Trade Center Site Following 9-11 Attacks

“On behalf of the Executive Board and the members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association we express our deepest condolences to the family of Firefighter Chuck Jones and all of the members of Ladder 165, Engine 317 and Battalion 54, where he served.

Following the 9-11 attacks on our nation and city, Firefighter Jones toiled for months-on-end with the rescue, recovery and clean-up operation at the World Trade Center site. Less than one year ago Chuck was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer, resulting from his service at the toxic site of the attacks. He is yet another 9-11 attack victim.

In the fire house and in the field, Chuck Jones was clearly recognized as a leader that fellow firefighters looked up to and respected. His sacrifice for the people of the City of New Yorkers must never be forgotten.”
