The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) launched its second hard hitting radio commercial on May 24th to draw attention to Mayor Bloomberg's attempt to close 20 fire companies which respond to and protect 80 neighborhoods across New York City. The campaign titled, "6-8 Minutes Left to Live" appears on eight leading New York City radio stations.

The :60 commercial by UFA President Steve Cassidy addresses how Mayor Bloomberg's FDNY cuts will impact firefighter medical responses to patients suffering from cardiac incidents, quoting American Heart Association data. He says, "Today Mike Bloomberg has touched the lives of all New Yorkers in a real and dangerous way. The American Heart Association says medical attention following a cardiac event must arrive in 6 - 8 minutes. Closing 20 fire companies will increase response times to patient contact dramatically."

Mr. Cassidy then goes on to remind New Yorkers of the city's response to Christmas Blizzard, saying, "The Mayor may think you can survive during a snowstorm in your house for three days, but I can assure you people will die if he closes your community firehouse. The Mayor's arrogant statements about hot chocolate in the park during a snow storm, firehouses on every corner and his claim of no responsibility for the multiple corruption investigations of his administration, shows just how out of touch he is with the people he serves."

New York City Firefighters respond to medical emergencies, fires, explosions, gas leaks, building collapses, scaffold rescues, serious vehicle accidents and extractions and terror threats. New York City Firefighters are also trained as the city's first line of defense responding to chemical, radiological, biological and nuclear threats (CRBN). Cassidy adds, "New Yorkers must demand their elected officials fight for the fire companies that protect their family's safety. The Bloomberg Administration is abdicating its responsibility to protect our city and its citizens."

The campaign launches on the following radio outlets: WABC, WCBS, WINS, WFAN, WWRL, WOR, ESPN-Radio and WNYM. To hear the commercial CLICK HERE.

UFA Radio Script: "6-8 Minute Left to Live"

This is Steve Cassidy President of Uniformed Firefighters Association. Today Mike Bloomberg has touched the lives of all New Yorker's in a real and dangerous way. The American Heart Association says medical attention following a cardiac event must arrive in 6 - 8 minutes. Closing 20 fire companies will increase response times to patient contact dramatically. Responses to fires, which the city already admits to misleading the public about will increase by several minutes. You and your loved ones lives are in jeopardy as a result of this administration's abdication of its responsibility to public safety.

The Mayor may think you can survive during a snowstorm in your house for three days, but I can assure you people will die if he closes your community firehouse. The Mayor's arrogant statements about hot chocolate in the park during a snow storm, firehouses on every corner and his claim of no responsibility for the multiple corruption investigations of his administration shows just how out of touch he is with the people he serves.
