UFA Members Re-Elect Steve Cassidy as President & John Kelly as Brooklyn Trustee Members Also Elect New Treasurer & Bronx Trustee

Today members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) reelected Steve Cassidy as UFA President, carrying 64 percent of the total member vote. Brooklyn Trustee John Kelly, who also has the dual role of Chairman of the UFA Board of Trustees was also re-elected to a fifth term.

Firefighter Edward Brown (Ladder 48), who has served as Bronx Trustee was elected to the position of UFA Treasurer, running unopposed. FF. Brown wins the post held by FF. Robert J. Straub (Engine-45) who is retiring. FF. William Greco (Engine 68), also running unopposed, was elected Bronx Trustee.

The election gives Mr. Cassidy - who took office in August 2002 - a fifth consecutive term as UFA President. He is the first UFA president, since the union’s founding in 1918 to serve five terms. In the vote conducted by the American Arbitration Association, FF. Cassidy (Engine 236) gained 3,293 votes (64%) to retired FF. Daniel Murphy, with 1,867 votes (36%). A total of 7,775 ballots were sent out and 69 percent of those were voted.

"I am honored to receive the support of UFA members and look forward to working with the union’s Executive Board," said Steve Cassidy. "There are many challenges ahead and I am very fortunate to have a great leadership team to work with."

Also running unopposed: Vice President, James Slevin (Ladder 7); Recording Secretary, LeRoy McGinnis (Engine 266); Health & Safety Officer/Sergeant-at-Arms, Gerard Fitzgerald (Engine 318); Manhattan Trustee, Vincent Speciale (Engine 55); Queens Trustee, Matthew DesJardin (Engine 325); Staten Island Trustee, Eric Bischoff (Engine 161).

The new term of office takes effect August 1, 2014.
