For Release September 17, 2016|
In accordance with the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) constitution, following Steve Cassidy stepping down as union president, UFA Vice President James Slevin will assume the duties as President for the remainder of the term. The current term of office concludes on April 30, 2017 with elections already scheduled for March 2017. There will be a quick transition with Firefighter Slevin becoming President.
Firefighter Slevin is a 21-year veteran and a member of Ladder 7 in Manhattan. He has served in the position of Vice President of the UFA for 14 years and during that entire time has been a trustee of the FDNY Pension Fund. As UFA Vice President he also served in the capacity as the union's legislative chairman, shepherding all legislative and regulatory matters on the federal, state and city level. He was recently elected by firefighters in the states of New York and New Jersey to serve as District Vice President to the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). He is an attorney and a graduate of CUNY School of Law and Fairfield University.
"I would like to thank Steve Cassidy for his 14 years of service to the UFA, as the union's longest serving president, and achieving many, many accomplishments on behalf of UFA members. I am confident that he will continue to serve the members with the same passion he exhibited as UFA president," said Jim Slevin. "I am committed to making sure the members of the UFA continue to be represented in the manner they deserve, having their rights protected."
