New York City Firefighters Elect New UFA Sergeant-at-Arms/Health & Safety Officer and Staten Island Trustee
This week New York City Firefighters have elected a new UFA Sergeant-at-Arms/Health & Safety Officer and Staten Island Trustee.
Firefighter Gerald Fitzgerald (Engine 318), who has been serving as interin Sergeant-at-Arms/Health & Safety Officer, was elected to the position gaining nearly 62 percent of the member vote. The position of Staten Island trustee will be filled by Firefighter Eric Bischoff (Engine 161) who won with 51 percent in a two person election. In a vote process administered by the American Arbitration Association under the observation of the UFA Election Committee, Firefighter Fitzgerald becomes the UFA's new Sergeant-at-Arms/Health & Safety Officer with 2,617 votes (61.9 %) to 867 votes (20.5 %) for FF Edward Morri (Ladder 81) and 746 votes (17.6 %) for FF Michael Canale (Engine 59). FF. Fitzgerald succeeds William Romaka (Engine 238).
Firefighter Eric Bischoff takes office as the new UFA Staten Island Trustee with 266 votes (51 %) to 255 votes (49 %) for FF Michael O'Neill (Ladder 82). FF. Bischoff succeeds Donald Ruland (Engine 157).
In accordance with the UFA constitution, both newly elected Executive Board members' terms begin immediately. The UFA Executive Board congratulates both on their elections.
