Statement from Stephen J. Cassidy, President, Uniformed Firefighters Association on the Death of
Firefighter Richard Manetta (L-156)

On behalf of the Executive Board and the 9,000 members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association we express our deepest condolences to the family of Firefighter Richard Manetta and all of the members of Ladder 156 and Engine 276.

Firefighter Manetta will be remembered as a highly respected and dedicated firefighter and one who worked tirelessly at the rescue and recovery operation following the collapse of the World Trade Center site.

Following a brave fight, Richard like so many of his brother firefighters finally succumbed to the illnesses affecting the firefighters who responded to the September 11 attacks on our nation.

Firefighter Richard Manetta sacrificed his life for his fellow New Yorkers and we must never forget.
