New York City Firefighters Ratify Labor Agreement

The members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association today ratified a labor agreement with the city for 2008-2010. The vote was 7,043 (96.7 percent) in favor to 242 (3.3 percent) opposed.

With the ratification of this agreement, two contract matters were resolved: 1) the re-opener clause for the 2004-2006 contract cycle; 2) and a wage agreement for the 2008-2010 contract cycle.

Steve Cassidy UFA President said, "The Executive Board is gratified at the mandate the membership has shown in approving this contract."

The nearly two-month long UFA ratification process for this agreement began on October 15. In order to gain passage it needed four stages of approval, including a vote by the Executive Board, then battalion delegates, firehouse delegates and finally the full UFA membership. The membership ratification was conducted by the American Arbitration Association.
