FDNY Boxers Take it on the Chin to Raise Funds for American Troops
International Boxing Champions Join w/ NY's Bravest for Annual "Help Our Heroes SMOKER" Matches on April 21 at Christ the King H.S.
New York, NY - Members of the FDNY Boxing Team, will take on some of the best amateur boxers in the New York area, including many Golden Glove contenders to raise funds for American Troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan as amputees and with serious spinal cord injuries. Event will take place 8 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at Christ the King H.S. 68-02 Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village. General Admission is $20, with half of all ticket sales going to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Boxers from some of the areas toughest gyms, including Gleasons, Webster PAL, Glen Cove, Starret City, Westbury, will take on the firefighters in the ring. The night will include more than one dozen amateur bouts, two kickboxing matches and two female boxing bouts, plus an ALL FDNY GRUDGE MATCH. Last year's Help Our Heroes SMOKER raised $10,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Bravest Boxing Team members on the fight card are: open class fighter Mike Reno (E-33) at 152lbs; FDNY team veterans Jack Kirrane (E-59) at 178lbs; Johnny Dadon (E-228) at 155lbs; New team members Kevin Kirrane (L-51); Mike Tracy(E-279); Rich Blasi (E-321); John Soukas (L-8); and Matt Sabini (E-71).
Those in attendance will also have a chance to see boxing legends including: former two-time WBA Welterweight Champion & U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Breland; former Middlewiight & Light Heavyweight Champion Iran Barkly; and former Bantamweight and Super Bantamweight Champion Junior Jones; former undisputed Middleweight Boxing Champion Vito Anturfurmo; and former heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney.
