Statement from Steve Cassidy, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, on UFA members' injuries at the World Trade Center Site

New York, NY - Just as experts predicted, as time has passed the injuries suffered by New York’s Firefighters as a result of their work at the World Trade Center have gotten progressively worse - from asthma and various lung problems to ailments such as cancer and black lung.

No uniformed force had more individuals exposed to the conditions of the World Trade Center for a prolonged amount of time than the Firefighters of New York City. The health and safety of our members continues to be the paramount concern for the UFA. We will continue to press for more federal funding to monitor the health of our members and are lobbying heavily for the WTC Presumptive Bill to include death benefits.
