Far Rockaway Fire Leaves 15 Hurt, FDNY Says

FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS -- Emergency crews are responding to a high-rise apartment fire in Far Rockaway that injured 15 people, leaving one in critical condition, on Friday.

Firefighters got the call at around 11:30 a.m. about a blaze on the 11th floor of a 13-story apartment building at 88-00 Shore Front Parkway, FDNY officials told Patch.

The FDNY sent 20 units to battle the blaze, which was contained just before 12:30 p.m. A total of nearly 80 firefighters and medics are on the scene, fire officials said.

The blaze left one person in critical condition and two more with serious injuries, an FDNY spokesman said. Twelve others suffered non-life threatening injuries.
