FDNY Memorial Services Commemorating the 23^rd  Anniversary of 9/11 

Below is a list of ceremonies in which the FDNY will host or participate in to honor the members of the Department lost on and since September 11, 2001.

At the National September 11^th Memorial Plaza at the WTC Site:

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the City will commemorate the 23^rd anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. The observance will take place at the National September 11^th Memorial Plaza at the WTC Site at Liberty Street and Trinity Place on the morning of September 11^th. The ceremony will observe six moments of silence:

• 8:46 AM In observance of the time the first plane struck the North Tower.
• 9:03 AM In observance of the time the second plane struck the South Tower.
• 9:37 AM In observance of the time Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.
• 9:59 AM In observance of the time of the fall of the South Tower.
• 10:03 AM In observance of the time Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, PA.
• 10:28 AM In observance of the time of the fall of the North Tower.

At sundown, and lasting through the night into the next day, the “Tribute of Light” will return in memory of those lost.

At Field Locations:

On September 11, as a mark of respect to those members of the Department who made the Supreme Sacrifice on 9/11/01, all firehouses will pull Department Apparatus (where applicable) onto the apron of quarters a few minutes before 8:46 AM. At 8:45 AM, Company Officers shall read the Remembrance before the 08:46 AM moment of silence, before placing apparatus back in quarters. Companies shall observe the additional moments of silence as listed above.

At Fire Headquarters:

The Remembrance will be read over the public address system a few moments before the 8:46 AM moment of silence. Building personnel shall observe the additional moments of silence as listed above.

At Tribute Wall:

An Honor Guard will be stationed at the Tribute Wall located on the outer wall of Engine 10 / Ladder 10 from 8:00 AM to dusk on September 11.

At Firemen’s Monument:

Members of Battalion 18 will host the annual Memorial Services at the Firemen’s Monument on Riverside Drive and 100th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan at 9:30 AM on September 11. A Mass at St. John the Divine will follow at 12:15 PM.

Other September 11^th Related Ceremonies:

The Office of the Staten Island Borough President will host a Memorial Service at the Staten Island September 11th Memorial, located adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal at 6:00 PM on September 11.
