Help Support the Family of Former Probationary Firefighter Derek Floyd

Following the heartbreaking loss of Probationary Firefighter Derek C. Floyd, the UFA-NYFF has established a GoFundMe page to support his grieving family.

After serving two tours in the US Marine Corp, with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and earning multiple medals including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, FF Derek Floyd became a NYC firefighter to continue in his life of service.

Unfortunately, he was unable to complete the Academy due to a medical condition, and he was given a light duty position and kept his full-time employment with the FDNY for 4 and a half years.

Unfortunately, Derek was let down by the leaders of New York City as he was laid off just weeks before Christmas to pay for NYC’s ongoing migrant situation. He then suffered a fatal heart attack earlier this month, an absolutely devastating situation.

Had Derek’s employment continued with the FDNY, he would have been entitled to death benefits and insurance worth over $600,000; now they are left with nothing.

Derek is survived by his beloved wife Christine, his precious 2-year-old daughter Abigail, and his adoring 6-year-old son, Ethan. Your generosity, no matter the amount, will make a significant difference during this difficult time.

May we Never Forget Derek’s memory.
